So sometime around 2007 or 2008, I stumbled across a blog called “These Albums are Sick“. I can’t remember how I found it, such is the nature of the internet – one click leads to another click, and so on and so on. This guy, Lucas, would post about the latest album he’d discovered and felt like he should share. He’d post links to download the mp3s from upload sites like Mediafire (which got him in trouble a few times I believe), all in the name of sharing the songs and hoping that his audience would go out and support the artists he posted about.

Anyway, at the time I had fallen out with some of my musical friends; I’d just moved to Melbourne and was struggling to find people who shared my taste in music; and I was in need of updating my musical library. And after a bit of browsing I discovered that this guy’s taste matched my own, and he was also as eclectic as I was – there were the punk and alternative rock bands that lured me in, but he didn’t mind a bit of folk, indie, metal or hard rock.

So for the next few years I kept an eye on this blog and happily indulged in whatever albums Lucas felt like putting up. Over time, some of these bands ended up becoming some of my favourite artists and albums. Frank Turner, Chuck Ragan, The Avett Brothers, The Gaslight Anthem, Off With Their Heads, Against Me! – these were just some of the bands I discovered through the blog. Not to mention the bands I already liked that he would post about as well.

Anyway, eventually Lucas decided to call it quits. But I’ve long since been interested in starting up my own blog, inspired by These Albums Are Sick (I hope he doesn’t mind me borrowing the URL name as the blog title). Somewhere I can just bang on about music that’s affected me recently, whether it’s old or new, and not care about who reads it or if they’ll even like the bands I like. You know when you’re out at a party, you’re pretty drunk, and you and a few mates get hold of the stereo and start lining up songs you like, and then you all start getting into it, and pretty soon you’re all like ‘wait wait, this is the bit, this bit is the BEST! Did you feel that? So good. So. Good’ and before you know it you’re the last people at the party but you’re STILL lining up songs and singing out loud and telling everyone all the cool shit you know about the band and why they’re so awesome?

That’s what this blog is about.

Enjoy.

Andrea, randomly came across your blog. It’s Lucas! Stoked you’re taking on the journey. Blogging all those years ago was partly for me, partly to meet folks from around the world. Glad you got something out of it friend. Be well, and hit me up whenever!
